Pinkerton Detective Agency

I was in the mood for a historical fiction (I love history, but didn't enjoy history class) and a little mystery to keep the story moving. It was pure luck that I read two books about the same time in history - one for kids and one for adults! I took a recommendation from a favorite podcaster Modern Mrs. Darcy and checked out Girl in Disguise by Greer Macallister (adult fiction) and Detective's Assistant by Kate Hannigan (children's fiction). Both books capture the story of Kate Warne, who needed to earn an income and was smart enough to convince Allan Pinkerton to hire her. These are great choices for a mother/daughter discussion or book club.  If you want to have some real fun - try Detective's Assistant as an audio book like I did.
