It's been a busy spring and summer! I enjoyed an encaustic painting class and created some pieces using hot wax. It's a unique process - as you get to think in 2-D and 3-D. I found that I liked the effect of pressing random findings (paper, string, beads) into the hot wax added extra texture.

In the image below, you can see the detail of bird's eye, which was actually an earring with an angel image pressed into it. I carved into the wax to added some texture and accentuate the lines. When the wax is hot, it's just like painting with oil or acrylic paints, except you can't easily erase your mistakes.
