Book Review: Mr. Popper's Penguins (Children's Book)

I know that librarians love Mr. Popper's Penguins, but I had not read it myself, so figured a quick audiobook listen would work great! I downloaded it onto my Libby app (check with your library - free audiobooks!) and I was pulled back into the 1940s to the days of housewives, paperhangers and old fashioned radio! If you haven't read the story yet, I won't give too much away --- but Mr. Popper LOVES Arctic adventures and when he is not painting people's kitchens the wrong colors (he likes to day dream) he reads about silly penguins.

What is so fantastic about this audiobook? Listening to the extra sounds they incorporate - the rustling of papers, the doorbell, the static-y old radio broadcast. It transports your mind to this special place created my Mr. Atwater - that still stands the test of time, especially for elementary school readers. They will laugh at the antics and want to discuss what could be on it's way from the Arctic!
